How the Feel Great System Helped Kim Overcome Depression | Feel Great System
Sep 08, 2021Depression is a serious mental health condition that affects millions of people around the world. It can be debilitating, making it difficult for people to carry out their daily activities and enjoy life to the fullest.
While there is no single solution for everyone, there are ways to manage depression that work for some people. In this article, we will explore the story of Kim Murphy, who overcame depression by developing a fine-tuned routine that includes exercise, studying, and taking care of her grandson.
Kim Murphy is a 60-year-old woman who lives in Stony Creek, Hamilton, Ontario. She has struggled with mental health issues for years, including depression. Kim has experienced both ups and downs in her mental health journey, but she has found a way to manage her depression by creating a routine that works for her. In her own words, "I've been up and down, up and down, had some mental health issues and down with depression more than I was up."
Kim's routine includes walking for at least an hour a day. Exercise is a well-known mood booster and can help alleviate symptoms of depression. According to the American Psychological Association, physical activity increases the production of endorphins, which are natural chemicals in the body that help reduce pain and increase pleasure. Exercise also promotes the growth of new brain cells, which can improve cognitive function and help combat depression.
In addition to exercise, Kim is also studying for her master's degree. She started her program five years ago, and it is a three-year program. Kim admits that she used to be the "queen of procrastination," which is a common symptom of depression. However, she has managed to overcome this by getting one to two modules done per week, even while taking care of her grandson. Studying has helped Kim stay focused and motivated, and it gives her a sense of purpose.
Kim's routine also includes taking care of her grandson while her daughter works as a police officer. Being a grandmother brings her joy, and taking care of her grandson gives her a sense of responsibility and purpose. Kim enjoys spending time with her grandson and being a positive influence in his life.
Kim also has a business where she recruits. Her hard work has not gone unnoticed, and her boss has even complimented her on her work. "I've actually had compliments from my boss, calling me to say my work has been noticed," she shares. This positive feedback has boosted Kim's confidence and made her feel more productive.
Since implementing her fine-tuned routine, Kim has noticed a significant improvement in her mental health. She can study and absorb information better than before, and her productivity has increased. "I can't tell you how good I feel," she shares. "Before, the Unimate yerba mate, 6 o'clock my brain would shut down. I was reading the other night at 7:00 PM and absorbing what I'm reading and it's just, I can't imagine how great I feel."
Kim's story is a testament to the power of routine and how it can help manage depression. While everyone's routine will look different, the key is to find what works for you. It may take some trial and error, but the effort is worth it. Creating a routine that includes exercise, meaningful activities, and social support can go a long way in improving mental health. It's important to remember that depression is a treatable condition, and there is hope for recovery.
